6.4 Color wheel explained
Lesson Summary
Now that we have a general idea of what we are looking to achieve, let's start building towards the colour palette. But before we do, let's first understand the fundamentals of colour with the help of the colour wheel. The colour wheel is a visual representation of colours arranged in a circular format, showcasing the relationships between primary, secondary, and tertiary colours.
- Primary colours: Red, blue, and yellow. These are the three basic colours that cannot be created by mixing any other colours. They are the foundation of all the other colours on the colour wheel.
- Secondary colours: Green (blue and yellow), orange (red and yellow), and purple (red and blue). These are created by mixing equal amounts of two primary colours.
- Tertiary colours: Red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-purple (blurple), and red-purple. These are created by mixing equal amounts of a primary colour and an adjacent secondary colour.
The colour wheel forms the foundational knowledge of colour and is an extremely simple but effective tool to understand how to utilize colour for future projects.
